Switch software/JAR (Paper/Purpur/Spigot/Vanilla)

Change your Victus server between Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Vanilla, Fabric, Forge or Velocity — via the Startup variables or an egg change, backing up first.

The server software (the JAR) determines what your server can do: Vanilla is stock Minecraft; Spigot/Paper/Purpur are Bukkit-based and support plugins (Paper and Purpur add big performance gains); Fabric/Forge run mods; Velocity is a proxy that links multiple servers. On Victus the software comes from the server's egg, and some variants can be selected from the Startup tab.

SoftwarePluginsModsBest for
VanillaNoNoPure, unmodified Minecraft
SpigotYesNoPlugins, basic optimisation
PaperYesNoBest all-round: plugins + strong performance
PurpurYesNoPaper plus extra tweaks/customisation
FabricNoYesLightweight mods / modpacks
ForgeNoYesLarge mods / classic modpacks
VelocityProxy pluginsNoLinking multiple servers behind one address

Back up before switching

Switching between Bukkit-based and modded software, or changing the egg, can require a reinstall that wipes server files. Create a Backup and/or download your world before you start.

Switch it

  1. 1Back up (Backups tab) and note your current MC version.
  2. 2If your egg exposes a software/type variable, open the Startup tab, set it (e.g. Paper → Purpur, both Bukkit-based so the world stays), save and Restart.
  3. 3To move between families (e.g. Vanilla/Paper ↔ Forge/Fabric) you likely need a different egg — do a Reinstall from the Settings tab, or ask support to change the egg on your service.
  4. 4After it boots, re-add your plugins (Bukkit types) or mods (Fabric/Forge) as appropriate.

Worlds usually carry across Bukkit types

Vanilla, Spigot, Paper and Purpur share a world format, so moving between them normally keeps your world. Moving to/from modded (Forge/Fabric) can change the format and behaviour — test on a copy if the world matters.
