Install mods (Forge/Fabric)

Run Forge or Fabric mods on a Victus server — put mods in the mods folder, match the loader/version, and install the same mods on your client.

Mods change the game itself and require a modded server type — Forge or Fabric — set by your server's egg. Unlike plugins, most mods must be installed on BOTH the server and every player's client, and the versions must match exactly. Mixing Forge mods with a Fabric server (or vice versa) will not work.

Forge and Fabric are not interchangeable

Fabric mods only run on a Fabric server; Forge mods only on Forge. Check each mod's page for the loader AND the Minecraft version before downloading.

Set the loader, then add mods

  1. 1Make sure your server runs the Forge or Fabric egg. If not, switch software (this may require a reinstall — back up first).
  2. 2Open the Startup tab and confirm the Minecraft version and loader/build match the mods you want.
  3. 3Open the Files tab and go into the mods folder (create it if it does not exist).
  4. 4Upload each mod .jar into mods (use SFTP for a whole modpack — it is far faster than the web uploader).
  5. 5Restart from the Console tab and watch the log for load errors.

Install the same mods on your client

  1. 1Install the matching Fabric/Forge loader in your Minecraft launcher for the same MC version.
  2. 2Put the same client-side mods in your client mods folder.
  3. 3Join the server — a mismatch usually shows as a "missing mods" or handshake/connection error.

Running a modpack?

For a known pack (CurseForge/Modrinth), use its server pack if provided, then upload the whole mods folder via SFTP. Modpacks need much more RAM than Vanilla — if it crashes on boot, check "Out of memory / server keeps crashing".
