Change the Minecraft version
Change the Minecraft version of a Victus server from the Startup tab, back up first, and update your plugins/mods to match.
The Minecraft version is controlled by a variable on the Startup tab. On most eggs you set the target version there and the correct JAR downloads on the next start. Upgrading is generally safe; downgrading (going to an older version) is risky because newer world data cannot always be read by an older version.
Back up before you change the version
A version change can rewrite world data and may trigger a reinstall that wipes files. ALWAYS create a Backup (Backups tab) or download your world first. Downgrades in particular can corrupt a world saved by a newer version.
Change it
- 1Create a backup from the Backups tab (and/or download the world from Files).
- 2Open the Startup tab and set the version variable to the version you want (or "latest").
- 3Save the change.
- 4Go to the Console tab and Restart. The new JAR downloads and the server boots.
- 5If nothing changed, the server may cache the old JAR — do a reinstall from the Settings tab (this can wipe files, so keep that backup).
After changing
- Update every plugin/mod to a build for the new MC version — old ones are the top cause of post-update crashes.
- Check the console on first boot for version/incompatibility warnings.
- Tell your players to use the matching client version (and matching mods for modded servers).
Snapshots and gaps
Not every version/snapshot is available on every egg, and jumping across major versions can change world format. Move one major version at a time if you have a valuable world, testing after each step.
